Q’s

Different cultures often have vastly different understandings of “success.” For families that straddle the gap between two cultures, the divide can be hard to navigate.

As a second-generation immigrant, I realized that I have a lot of questions about success that I never really figured out how to ask when I was growing up. I found that many of my friends have experienced the same thing.

So, I decided to ask my second-generation friends if they had any questions about success that I could bring to first-generation parents.

A’s

Four parents were kind enough to answer these questions, on camera: Hidayat, who immigrated 18 years ago from Indonesia; Cindy and Lit, who immigrated from Hong Kong; and Huy, who came from Vietnam 20 years ago. All are parents to two kids.
